Abundant Display

Abundant Display comes out of Walter Marx's breeding program, registered and introduced by Ben Hager in 1985. Marx worked in Oregon through the middle of the last century and shaped much of what American Japanese irises became; Hager, a major California hybridizer in his own right, carried several of Marx's later seedlings through to introduction.

Six broad falls open on white, in the flat wide form that gives Japanese irises their presence in the garden. A diploid, which tends toward a lighter, more refined flower than the heavier modern tetraploids.

Japanese irises want moisture, especially through spring bloom season, and slightly acidic soil — they won't tolerate lime. Full sun gives the best performance. Hardy in zones 4–8.
