Angelic Choir

Angelic Choir earns the name. Six broad white falls open flat and wide, while the white style arms stand upright at the center rather than lying against the petals — the effect is of something lifted, almost gathered, at the heart of the flower. Against green foliage or planted where evening light catches it, white Japanese irises do something no other color does.

Registered by Chad Harris in 2005 and introduced the following year. Harris runs Mt. Pleasant Iris Farm in southwest Washington and is a Master Judge with the American Iris Society; several of his introductions hold national awards.

Standing 42 inches with midseason bloom, it's tall enough to hold its own at the back of a border.

Japanese irises want moisture, especially through spring bloom season, and slightly acidic soil — they won't tolerate lime. Full sun gives the best performance. Hardy in zones 4–8.
