Belgium Sky

Belgium Sky is exactly what the name promises. Six broad falls open in a clear, soft light blue, each one marked with a dark violet halo circling a deep yellow signal, with pale yellow rays fanning outward from the center. The style arms — four to six of them, unusually — are silvery white edged in blue, with crested stamens adding texture at the heart of the flower.

Registered by Belgian hybridizer Willy Hublau in 1996 and introduced through Delmez Gardens in 2006. Standing 35 inches with midseason bloom, its flat six-fall form makes a wide, open flower that reads beautifully from a distance. A cross of an unnamed seedling × 'Lady In Waiting'.

Japanese irises want moisture, especially through spring bloom season, and slightly acidic soil — they won't tolerate lime. Full sun gives the best performance. Hardy in zones 4–8.
