Rivulets of Wine

Rivulets of Wine is named for exactly what it looks like. Wine red veins run down a white ground in fine intense lines, gathering and deepening until they pool into solid wine around a yellow signal at the heart of each fall. The style arms pick up the same wine red, lightening toward their edges.

Registered by Terry Aitken in 1999 and introduced the same year through Aitken's Salmon Creek Garden in Vancouver, Washington. It earned an Honorable Mention in 2002 and an Award of Merit in 2006. Its seed parent is 'Flashing Koi' — which we also grow, if you'd like to plant both and see the family resemblance.

Japanese irises want moisture, especially through spring bloom season, and slightly acidic soil — they won't tolerate lime. Full sun gives the best performance. Hardy in zones 4–8.
