Wave Action is named for what the color does. Light blue veining and a fine dusting run through the center of each fall, then break clean at the edges into ruffled pure white — the effect is water pulling back from a shoreline. A yellow signal anchors the center, and the style arms carry the same light blue dusting, often in multiples.
Registered in 2009 by Bob Bauer and John Coble of Ensata Gardens in Michigan, and awarded an Honorable Mention by the American Iris Society in 2013. A cross of 'Wispy Clouds' × a seedling from 'Hagoromo' and 'Jocasta'.
Standing 36 inches with midseason bloom. Beautiful in a border, and good for cutting.
Japanese irises want moisture, especially through spring bloom season, and slightly acidic soil — they won't tolerate lime. Full sun gives the best performance. Hardy in zones 4–8.
